Entrance Exam Entrance testing for the Practical Nursing Program is required and will be held twice a year - in April and October. Once your application is complete and received by the deadline, you will receive a letter of testing date in mid March or September. Currently we use the KAPLAN - Nursing School Entrance Exam which is a supervised computerized exam. **PLEASE NOTE: The following details are subject to change. We have just recently changed to the KAPLAN testing and are still learning the system. The exam consists of 71 questions. The breakdown is as follows: Reading section contains 22 questions. Candidates read four passages and answer questions that measure the essential skills required for reading:
Math section contains 28 questions. The test measures the candidate's ability to apply mathematical principles in the following areas:
Writing section contains 21 questions. Candidates read nine passages and answer questions that measure the essential skills required for writing:
**Applicants will not be tested on the Life Science or Physical Science portions listed in the study guide. Applicants must pass the math, reading comprehension, vocabulary and spelling portions of the examination with an overall score at or above the national average of 62% to determine potential for success in nursing school. Computer Skills Needed: Use of the mouse and basic keyboard strokes are needed to take the exam. Interested persons may purchase a study guide to prepare for the exam by ordering it from the link below, from any book store or by checking with your local library using the ISBN #: 978-1-4195-5034-8. The original test fee is paid with the application fee. Therefore, for those retaking the exam, there is a $35 re-testing fee. Results of the pre-entrance test will be sent to you electronically by the testing company. A suggestion to help increase your reading level is to begin reading medical/nursing magazines to become familiar with reading scientific terms. Check with your local Career Link about Health Care Prep classes.
